Installation Precautions for Vortex Flow Meters

2024-08-01

When installing the Vortex flowmeter, you should refer to the ISO diagram, typical installation diagram, and 3D model. The installation steps and methods should be consistent with the manufacturer's operating instructions.

1. Installation requirements The Vortex flowmeter should not be installed in a position where the measured liquid is prone to vaporization, nor should it be installed on a vibrating pipeline. For large and medium flows of clean gas, steam and liquid, a Vortex flowmeter can be used. It is not suitable to use a Vortex flowmeter for measuring low-speed fluids and liquids with high viscosity. Requirements for straight pipe sections: 15~50D (D is the pipeline diameter) upstream;. When adding a rectifier upstream, the upstream is not less than 10D, and the downstream is at least 5D.

2. When installing the vertically installed Vortex flowmeter, the design of the process pipeline should ensure that the medium in the instrument body is kept full and no air is left. In general, the Vortex flowmeter can be installed in any direction without affecting the accuracy, but the following requirements must be met. When the Vortex flowmeter is installed on a vertical pipeline, the installation direction of the Vortex flowmeter measuring different media is different. As shown in Figure 1.

3. Horizontal installation. For steam and fluids with low solid content, it is recommended to install the flow meter and electronics on the side of the pipeline. This will minimize potential measurement errors and allow condensate or solids to flow under the discharge rod without interrupting the vortex. For horizontal installation, the optimal orientation is to install the electronics on the side of the pipeline. In liquid applications, this installation method can prevent the incoming air or solids from impacting the vortex generator and interfering with the frequency of the generator. In gas or steam pipeline applications, this installation method can prevent condensed liquid from interfering with the vortex generator and its frequency, as shown in Figure 2.

4. Steam pipeline Vortex flowmeter is installed on the steam pipeline. The pipeline where the Vortex flowmeter is located cannot be designed as S-shaped as shown in Figure 3, because this design form can easily cause condensate to flow back into the Vortex flowmeter, thereby causing damage to the instrument equipment.

5. Handling and inspection The Vortex flowmeter consists of two parts: the body and the transmitter. The Vortex flowmeter should be handled carefully during the handling process. The transmitter position cannot be directly supported by hand for handling. The accessories of the Vortex flowmeter should be carefully checked and verified. The temperature detection of the Vortex flowmeter body cannot be disassembled. The protective cover of the temperature detection probe part should not be removed until the on-site construction to avoid damaging the probe.

6. Installation direction When the Vortex flowmeter is installed on site, the installation direction is required to be: the medium flow direction of the pipeline is consistent with the flow direction shown on the Vortex flowmeter body. The installation direction of the transmitter should be 90° or 270°, as shown in Figure 4. 7. Flange installation. After the Vortex flowmeter is adjusted in direction, the flange is butt-connected and installed. When installing, select the flange gasket and bolts of the appropriate grade and install them according to the manufacturer's instruction manual. 8. Temperature detection sensor installation After the Vortex flowmeter body is installed, remove the protective device of the temperature sensor probe and insert the temperature sensor probe into the hole at the bottom of the flowmeter body. After tightening by hand, install it according to the manufacturer's requirements. As shown in Figure 5.
